And I cannot think of these books without thinking of a very good friend -- and fellow homeschooling mom -- named Erin, who died a few years ago from cancer. We had SO many wonderful talks about the series. And whenever one of us would feel overwhelmed by life, our comment would be "I need to take a trip to Mitford." In other words, it was time to reread one of the Mitford books again.

I learned so much from Erin; knowing her really changed my life. She was such a brave lady -- even when dealing with all the awful stuff she had to with her cancer. She was always reaching out to other people -- trying to encourage those around her. She also helped me to see what a privilege it is to serve my family, to just do everyday things like make dinner, wash dishes, etc. As her illness progressed, one of the hardest parts of it for her was her inability to do those things.

It is SO easy to focus on problems, on things we wish were different in our lives. But knowing Erin helped me to be thankful for the million little blessings in my life everyday...

Joining the Blog World...

After reading and enjoying many blog entries of Trufflehunter, who also happens to be my sweet daughter, I am finally getting a blog of my very own.
